What areas can be treated?

Any area of your body can be treated. The most commonly treated areas are those most exposed to the damaging effects of the sun such as the face, neck, chest, arms, back of the hands and shoulders. Those who start with the face are usually ecstatic about the results and before long move on to address damage on the other areas to bring them all into the same decade!
*Not suitable for patients with a Fitzpatrick greater than 4.

How Photofacial Treatment Works

Photofacial is performed with a light technology known as Intense Pulse Light (IPL). By targeting the part of the molecule that is responsible for its color, the skin selectively absorbs the IPL energy in areas of excessive pigmentation, pigmented lesions and dilated vessels. This applied energy damages the targeted vascular or pigmented lesions. By utilizing specific light parameters, the color of the skin(skin tone) can be improved with no down time.

What can I expect during my treatment?

The photofacial procedure can be performed in as little as 30 minutes, depending on the size of the treatment area. A warm or “rubber band snap” sensation may be felt as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Because photofacial treatment is non-invasive, patients typically experience only mild to moderate discomfort during the procedure. Men will be asked to shave on the day of treatment, prior to their arrival.

What can I expect after my treatment?

The immediate result is that those brown spots get browner and those vascular(red) lesions get darker. This is the desired outcome! In the days following your treatment (2-14 depending on the nature of the original lesions), you may experience a peppering effect commonly referred to as “microcrusting” to your skin. Although some aesthetic results are noticeable a day or two after treatment, results continue to improve with time as the body naturally heals. As the body passes the damaged lesion cells from the body through its natural detoxification system, the result is clearer, more even-toned skin. To achieve your best results, we recommend a series of 3 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart. We will provide you with complete take home information about the post treatment care and maintenance of your results.

What can I expect after my treatment?

Can I accomplish this result with a laser resurfacing treatment?
No. Laser resurfacing will help with fine lines and some superficial pigmentation, but it does not affect or remove blood vessels or flushing. Laser resurfacing is a wonderful treatment for addressing the texture of the skin, reducing fine lines/wrinkles, and making pores less visible, but it is not a substitute for photofacial. Since these treatments do different things, we highly recommend a combination of laser resurfacing and photofacial treatments for best results.

Can I accomplish the same results with facials, chemical peels, or microdermabrasions?

No. Photofacial treatments can be used in conjunction with these services, but they do not provide the results that photofacials can.
